Gorgeous rose-colored buds

I noticed that Calderona (fig popped 11/26) has a beautiful rose-colored bud, instead of my others which are typically green. Is this typical?

I also am seeing it also start in Nerucciolo d’Elba, in a darker wine color. This one must be a strong grower, since I just fig popped on 12/13, and the buds have already swollen and colored up.

Is this pinker bud (instead of greenish) typical in darker figs? Perhaps higher anthocyanin levels?

This can be the case in apples. Sometimes they will have red wood even. Some have red leaves, almost all have redder flowers.

But also its common for new growth of all plants to be red. It acts as a sort of sunscreen for leaves. See the new growth on my rose and honeyberry. 1000004539.jpg1000004447.jpg

So in short no idea which it is for you

I have a couple of fig trees which puts out pink stems too and contacted a respected fig nursery inquiring about it. I was told that it's not a big deal and common. I was hoping it was a big deal and worth more by being so unique. lol

Some citrus varieties also flush out new red growth at times. As somebody stated, it's possible that it's a way to protect the plant from the sun.

If I was uninformed by a fig nursery, I would wonder if it's something in your soil. Enjoy your new plants.

Oooh, pink stems would be so pretty!
Do you happen to remember if the pink stems were on figs that have a darker fruit?
