Its dry as the devil over here in phoenix, this tree has been thriving since i planted it in january. The eye was open and large when i picket it which i can see not boding well in a more humid locationI have thought about getting Golden Riverside or YLN but I hear people saying that large figs don't seem to ripen well for them in places where it's humid and rains a lot. I wonder how Golden Riverside would do here in East Texas.
Curious if you had to use bird net to protect the figs or not? I am about to start the net tomorrow, hate to have birds get to the first figs of the season. the fig looks really goodFirst fig off of this tree, golden riverside, had to pick this am because ill be out of town several days and its 114° farenheight here!
Its good. Reminds me of grandpas trees, could have used 1-2 more days, hopefully i come back to more ripe fruitView attachment 8805
I have a chicken wire cage around it to protect from weed wacking, i also put a mesh shade cloth over it about a week ago to protect from the tempsCurious if you had to use bird net to protect the figs or not? Oh yeah man i would cull that too, i have a tissue culture tree heading that direction as well this fallI have had one for 3 years has not had one figlet. this its last year.
If you got Robert’s golden rainbow it’s the same tree. I’ll have a ton of cuttings I can get you some of that. I’ve actually got the ucr, golden rainbow, and yellow long neck to compare the three together. The growth habits of golden rainbow I have are super vigorous, the fastest and thickest growth out of the many Varieties I have.I have always wanted Bens... But the ucr 278-128 golden riverside is amazing as well.
The 278Was this ben’s golden riverside or the ucr 278-128 golden riverside? Hard to say one way or the other looking at the photo
I tried yln and it kept dying, im happy this is doing well, i really wanted a yellow fig, ive got a hollier doing good but its much younger still. If you got Robert’s golden rainbow it’s the same tree.
