Glossary

Any chance we can get a glossary into the forum?

I’m sure it would benefit both those new to fig growing and others like myself.

I did a very small one in the Caprifig section. I could add to it. What would you like added?

Didn’t notice that one.

Nothing in particular, just a general glossary covering terms and synonyms frequently used.

A general glossary I can do. Synonyms I would think need to be in a separate section. Where members can talk about them. Dispute them even. I will work on adding to the glossary.

I usually Google any words I don’t know or figs I don’t recognize. There’s some good, external threads that pop up regarding synonyms. It’s a time consuming process to keep a list up to date.

@"Rigo007"#178 has a great database, some with possible synonyms.

I agree that one can google for definitions, but a glossary of (in)frequently used terms as a sticky can keep all relevant fig information on the forum.

I’m not referring to variety synonyms as that’s a clusterfuck waiting to happen, but general terms such as parthenocarpic = common, which I just found out yesterday.

A glossary is definitely something we can do. Do I have any volunteers in terms of populating it?

I’ll look into the best way to do this… It may be a matter of embedding a spreadsheet, so everything stays in order. Let me have a look at our options

I have one on figdatabase but sense I never finished it, I have it turned off right now. Yall can do one here though. I'm in no rush to keep working on my site right now. If I build a team, maybe I'll dedicate time to it again.

It seems as though this will be a standard plugin on the new software that I was hoping would've been running several days ago...

Please allow me a few days on this. We'll make it work.

I’ll take a shot at it if no one wants to step up.

For sure. Please just give me a bit of time to get things updated on my end. I'm using every lever at my disposal to make it happen.

I can help, I just need to know what words people want definitions for.

I may hold you to that ;)

Let me get it running. Then we can build something special

Seems we have many that are willing to help make this happen. Good to see. As @"Inflorescence"#181 said. Is there a list of words y'all want definitions to? Or shall we just add as many as we can think of?

I think the glossary should cater to all growers regardless of experience. So, I would be in favor of more words than less. For example, auxin, apical, bud, cambium, node, etc., and getting into the parthenocarpic, caducus, and more “sciency” words.
