Galbun Fig finally ripens.

My Galbun fig finally ripens. I wrapped it in hardware cloth to try to get to taste one of my figs. I lost two figs all ready to the squirrel who owns my backyard. Or was it his good friend the Raccoon. This was a cutting given to me at my very first CRFG exchange event. Given by Venturabanana. To confirm all the details I'd have to go back to the old house . The scale had it weighed at 45 G it tasted Jammy juicy Honey Melon flavors not too sweet, and very refreshing the skin wasn't very Tangy but contributed to the melon flavor. It has a light pail yellow flesh which has been described by some as translucent. Main crop.

Gulbun is a variety I've been curious about, it has a unique look and I was suprized there was a melon flavour to a fig, sounds like you enjoyed it, hopefully next year you can get a one up on those critters.

@"GilaMonster"#153 ster. Thank you for your kind words. Though it is a first year fig, with lots of room for improvement it was very good sized. I believe it would have tasted even better if the squirrel who owns my backyard had given me a few extra days . It had already enjoyed a fig 4 days before this one. I was worried , and wanted to review it. Unfortunately his handwriting is awful, all we can make out was melon flavored, and refreshing on his review. Grrr

@"TorontoJoe"#1 I'm not sure I've never fruited it before. Sadly it had to be picked early. I've taken to putting my 5 gallon trees indoors the day before I think I'm going to pick a fig. LOL otherwise that greedy squirrel will have me looking like I can't ripen a fig. It's about time for me to buy that squirrelinator trap LOL I will buy a raccoon trap while I'm at it. Though it breaks my heart. You know how I love Raccoons....  :(

@"GilaMonster"#153 . Let's see how this big tree finishes out this winter. I can't swear to it, this year. If I have an extra cutting it's certainly yours. But I owe somebody one cutting first. So far it's been shaped pretty good for next year. Remind me in January please. You wouldn't buy any chance want a Peter's honey cutting? I have 30 ft of Peter's honey to give away. Extra points for not having a Peter's honey plant going LOL

Your too kind, I don't have Peter's honey, that's a variety I haven't read about/researched, I'll have to do that now.

When I looked up gulbun the expected height could be up to 20 feet, since it's a first year I bet you get some awesome growth next year on it.
