First Ponte Tresa

Figgin' A

I've been intrigued by Ponte Tresa for a while now. It was a highly hyped fig a few years ago. Some describe it as having a unique taste. Most reviews have been positive. So, I decided to give it a go this year. The cutting was rooted too late to produce this year, but since Harvey's cuttings are huge, I grafted a node, which grew into a nice branch and set a generous number of figs, even a few doubles, of which one ripened today. What a delicous fig! I am not sure I would describe the taste as unique, I'll reserve my opinion on that for now, but it's definitely a very, very delicous fig.

That looks delicious, waiting for my Ponte Tresa twig to grow into a tree . Maybe next year or next lol .
I am sure you won't have to wait more than a year. My little tree is too little to ripen anything this season as well, so I removed all the figlets. Glad I did a graft. The grafted branch grew really long, and I had to tie it to provide support. About 14-18 figs on it.

Awesome looking fig. Yah… a lot of the “unique” figs taste a lot like other figs, even if they are “unique”. I reserve the word unique for 180 degree (orthogonal ) totally different flavors. I find a lot of figs have great dominant flavors in common (amongst classes) with subtle notes of differences.

Yeah, I’ve been really happy with my Ponte Tresa too. It gave me some great figs late in the season when it can be hard to ripen flavorful figs. My records from last year (2-yr old) had it being a late fig (~120 days), but this may change as it matures. Definitely a keeper for me. View attachment 11389
Beautiful figs. 120 days is much longer than what I am seeing here. My PT graft set figlets in early May, so I am looking at 95-100 days here. But it's only one fig, and others are not yet close to ripening. Time will tell.

I suspect your ripening conditions are a lot more perfect and controlled than mine!
