Figs are drying on the trees

That’s not good. No significant drop here, maybe 1-2 here and there, but the taste definitely took the hit. Next time we have a heat wave I will try slow but nearly constant drip supply of water to my ripening figs. Heat shouldn’t be a problem as figs grow in very hot climates. I think it’s a water supply issue. But who knows, it’s possible that some varieties are good with it and some aren’t. I-258 today was stellar as ever. Like really fantastic. But VDB and RDB lacked flavor. Hm… both originate from a relatively mild climate. Maybe that’s the source of the problem too, these varieties aren’t used to intense heat and/or inconsistent water supply.
I do know that is playing a large roll in the dropping, I didn't set up my irrigation this year like a dummy.
So I water when I get home from work late afternoon, but by that time they are really dry.
I always say consistency is key...but this year I'm anything but.
Stress of dry then wet then dry then wet is ruining my season. Gah!...my fault.

Make a slurry with 50/50 borax and sugar, topped with some water until the desired consistency, it will take care of them pretty quickly. I put it in little foil pouches with a small opening near tree trunks. Works like a charm. Monterey bug spray (active ingredient spinosad) works well too. A circle of Diatomaceous earth around the trunk will deter them.

Would you know… is the borax thing basically the same as those Tarro and Ortho ant traps they sell at Home Depot? They work but they’re not cheap.

They claim the ants take whatever is inside back to the colony to wipe it out.

Still dealing with critters (possibly rats) but haven't caught them all this time. Fortunately, I moved the trees inside and has ripened some decent figs. The ones in ground have to fend for themselves. :(

I don’t regret investing in a trail camera. It’s not a high end unit but it gets the job done. I knew I have raccoons but it taught me a lot about their behaviour and allowed me to deal with them more successfully

Knowing what you’re dealing with helps a lot

I was dealing with rats 🐀 but now I see no traces of them around since I added a few poison boxes. I purchased some some strong poison a nibble is a death sentence for them.

Does this mean you can maybe put the pomodori back in the garden next season?

I’m not sure if it’s worth it in my back yarda I think I’m just gonna focus on figs. I just go to my uncles down the street and pick up some pomodori, bietola , zucchini had his place. If I had an it would be different.

No idea, but the description of how it works is similar to how borax/sugar works.
