Fig Fanatic Cuttings

Received my cuttings May 19 and started them by the fig pop method. By May 24 some were already showing signs of life.

I received a small Blue Celeste only suitable for grafting and used a couple of Olympian trees for root stock.

They didn’t survive and I’m pretty sure they drowned from sap. I noticed a day or two later the sap running down and put some relief cuts but I think the top of the cutting being wrapped had already flooded and ultimately did them in. These were my first fig grafts. Lessons learned.

With the cuttings doing well I decided to do some potting up on the first batch June 15.

Potted up the last of them June 17.

They all had roots but not all had top growth. I really sorta needed them out of the house with space limited and believed they would be ok. At potting up I would have bet on 100% success. I was wrong. Current situation today.

Looks like I’m going to lose two of the ones I was really excited about. Strawberry and Raspberry Latte. I also noticed the failures are all apical cuttings. 🤔 Makes me wonder about that. Anyway these are my results so far.

Thank you very much @Figless and @TorontoJoe and all the members who donated cuttings for this program. They are very much appreciated.

A huge amount of thanks is due from all who benefited from @TorontoJoe free cutting giveaway. So many of the cuttings came from @Fig Gazer Home Orchard. He was (The Unsung hero) to the Fig cutting giveaway. So many people unnecessarily thanked me. When I had (very little), or nothing do it with this program except volunteering to help @TorontoJoe pass out Fig Gazers cuttings to y'all. Time, and time again Joe was always watching me to make sure y'all got your cuttings. Lord knows I made so (many mistakes). Our Joe was watching out for you constantly. You might spread some love for our @Fig Gazer who along with @TorontoJoe loves (all) our new members. Even though he may never meet you, he loves all y'all

They look great! I see that your CDD Rimada grew and CDD Roja did not. My CDD Roja grew and my CDD Rimada did not. Maybe when these trees get bigger we should swap CDD Roja and Rimada cuttings, Lol.

I took pics of that variety because I knew others were struggling to get it to root. I would be glad to swap cuttings in the future.
