Fig cuttings

It’s a good producer. I was skeptical myself until I kept hearing bill from otbp talk about his in ground tree.

And I’m really close to troegs. Working on some black tea lemonades as we speak.
Hmmm. Some folks around me in DFW and east of here were saying there I258 in ground died completely from our winter last yr. Y’all up in PA kept them alive has me thinking again. lol

Oh I lost some figs this year for sure, just not this one for some reason. It did have a trash can and snow thrown over it before that super cold stretch.

Here, first is Mavra Sika (forum), Vasilika Black (OTBP), Gino’s Black (Kremp), unk Etna (friend-Gino), unk Celeste (Old Lady), Hardy Chicago (Edible Landcapes), unk Sicilian White (my buddy Gino)

Out of all the figs I have, the unk Sicilian White is the only one that puts out nice green shoots, well they stay green longer—as you can see the others seem to turn darker sooner. My Chicago Hardy will put out green growth but turn darker.

The Gino Black is putting out baby figs. Lol

The CDD Roja cutting that I got from the forum had a figlet but I removed it so it might put that energy into root and leaf growth. But it is cool to see those little rooted cuttings growing figs.

Yea, I was debating on removing the baby figs but decided to let them be, I have other Gino Black cuttings so I was wondering if there will be a difference between the cuttings? Ironically this one with the baby figs looks the best out of the Gino's Black, they're all in the same pot.

BTW your cuttings don't look like they are growing in a gutter, Lol. They look great!

Thanks! I guess because I do the best I can then almost let them fend for themselves. I figure if they can root and grow under these circumstances they ought to be fairly tough going forward.

I'm not allowed to have any heating elements/pads/blankets etc etc etc...wife is going through menapause and she's convinced I'll burn down the house.

Activity on all but maybe 3 or 4 of the cuttings.

All healthy too - look great.
Thanks! This was the first time I rooted en mass--I got a late start due to certain circumstances, well, some I was able to start inside in the bay window but most of them were prepped and kept outside on day one but in a protected area, now I have them under the weeping cherry tree. Some how a tomato plant snuck in there lol.

I’ve been very busy lately, working a lot of hours. So I’m a little behind with everything at the homestead.

Had to buy a washing machine today too : /

Got us a Speed Queen

Well, here’s some updated pics

The first pic is of a unk Mt Etna from my friend, he got a cutting from his neighbor (a Spanish lady) about 10-12 years ago. Nice smooth juicy sweet fig that gets a drop of honey from the eye. The leafs not that it matters are identical to the SMR but larger leaves. He's never protected the fig, neither has his neighbor. I planted this unk near the SMR because I want to compare the two. This is a really good fig imho and want to compare it to one of the more favorable Mt Etna's, and I picked the SMR to do so.

The second pic is of the SMR, from Big Bill (OTBP)

The third pic is a Constans, Big Bill (OTBP)

Forth pic is another unk Mt. Etna from my buddy Gino

Fifth pic is the Celeste from the Old Lady in Allentown--her tree has been unprotected and produces every year for decades--she's in her 90's

Sixth pic is a cutting I got from Big Bill but it was before I took labeling seriously and thought I'd remember--we'll have to figure it out later--I have everything written in a book--so maybe next year. It has the biggest leaves out of all my figs--and the roots took off from the pot deep into the ground so I planted it today.

What gorgeous healthy looking plants!

Thanks! Hey! I grew up in Bethlehem

These were all rooted this Spring--my others are doing well too but all died to the ground this past winter. I won't end up with many figs this year but a lot of my friends are in the same boat as well.

I'm in Bethlehem right now! ... and looking for a place so I can get my fig trees in ground. I've read the beginning of your thread now, I'm sorry for hard times earlier this year - I hope both you and your wife are doing well now.

I'm also sorry to learn that your trees all died to the ground last winter. I have a duplicate of Black Bethlehem that I can give you, if you'd like. It is from this year rooting, so it has not fruited for me (but cuttings came from DFoster who is excellent in reliability).

Thanks! I’m good for now, have a lot of various cuttings started this year in small pots—most seem to be doing well—the ones that died to the ground are doing very well—if we get a late winter/mild fall who knows? It might be okay. Next year should be good, I’m thinking.

Lehigh Valley has grown up a bit!

I drove by my old neighborhood and the one guy has quite a few good looking figs yet. The other neighbors I knew might be gone now.

Lehigh Valley is surely growing! I hope it does not change its green feel, with its parks and farms.

I'm glad you feel good about your recovering trees and newly started cuttings. With the trees looking like the ones in your pictures, you'll definitely have a thriving garden soon.
