Effect of time and amount of supplemental irrigation at different distances from tree trunks on quantity and quality of rain-fed fig production

We have not had good rain for at least 5 months, that is unusual for me here, and trees have certainly not done as well as they normally do. I found this paper on a test done in Iran on irrigation that I think is very interesting. Although most people tend to irrigate close to the tree trunk, it seems irrigation outside of the tree canopy could be an advantage. The subject is fairly complex, and this is certainly worth a read for anyone with trees in the ground.

I’ve been in a constant drought since Aug/Sept of last year.

When I water my inground trees, I always water to extend past the drip line.
