Looking real good![]()
When do you expect late ripening varieties to be ready for harvest? The Col De Dame, Martinenca Rimada, Bourjassotte Noire, Black Madeira, etc…
I wonder how early the season would have to start, in MA Zone 6b or similar, to allow Martinenca Rimada and equally late varieties such as BMKK, CDD Noir, and Bourjassotte Noire enough time to ripen by the end of September.
Hypothetically speaking:
- Say the heater is turned on on February 25th,
- March 15th trees are out of dormancy,
- May 15th a decent number of figlets have formed,
- 120 days later, will be mid September and by then figs will start to ripen,
- First frost around mid October will allow an extra month, so figs that did not form until end of May have a good chance to ripen.
Thoughts from members who have had some experience would be very much appreciated.
No, got rid of both of them a while agoHow about Col De Dame & Martinenca Rimada?
Do you grow them?
Can I ask why you got rid of them? No, got rid of both of them a while ago
Can I ask why you hot rid of them?
Yeah those CDD’s are notorious for being late lol I could never get one no matter what varietyVery late, split badly and my Preto and Black Madeira taste better and more reliable.
How do you go about hot bathing and waking up potted & in ground trees?Damn Mj already your an early starter
eh!! My back yard is literally a mountain of snow. I got a few more weeks to get my temporary greenhouse all setup again. In
2-3 weeks I have to start hot bathing them to wake em up. Can’t believe it’s almost season. Anyway good luck on your figs
In my case, I installed hot and cold faucets on two sides of the house so it's only a matter of bringing a hose to the tree. How do you go about hot bathing and waking up potted & in ground trees?
It makes so many things easier not having to use freezing water all the time..... And using pex now makes it super easy to do.I need to install a hot water faucet outside in the yard instead of carrying boiling water 200 feet, one gallon at a time.
