Do any of you use burlap to wrap palm trees ?

I have palmettos that I do nothing to and they continue to grow like crazy in East TN. But....I have an actual palm. Not hardy to this area, but has survived the past two winters with extended 5 degree nights. We have just ratchet strapped full bags of mulch around the trunk.
It's really grown....and I'm wondering if I should also wrap burlap around the base. Anyone else do this ? The bananas are the very cold hardy Musa Basjoo variety that I also do nothing to to protect during the winter except allow the frozen foliage to stay layed down around the base of the plant until spring.

@Smokymist - He's been offline for a long time but Coconut Mike in Montreal used to grow huge palm trees

It's way colder than Toronto and his palms were the size of a house. I will try to find more but if you can get any info this gut was growing big palms in z4+

ahhh the old Gardenweb. I loved and hated that place lol, but before I even thought about growing a fig or any fruit, this is where 90% of my daylily and hosta collection came from. Swaps....Thanks :)

I wish I'd planted this one in the ground. We brought it home about 10 years ago from a trip to Florida. I'm shocked it's still alive. I have palmettos popping up everywhere. We are planning to start looking for a place and property any day ....after the New Year, so I wish I could take this with me ( have heard that's difficult to do )
Mine are small, I bring them in the garage, might put them in ground one day

We have a few sego palms.
They don't handle the cold as well as others do.
But....they do seem to take some abuse.

Northern Georgia is on our radar...never thought I'd say that. But it's not a no lol. Your weather is warmer .

Yeah you just have to stay away from Atlanta...the closer you get the more expensive it gets....way more! Lol
We want nowhere near Atlanta.....first, dont' like big cities, or any city, and secondly it took us four hours to get through that traffic last week on our way home from Florida lol

Well, I'm in Cedartown, it takes me approx. 1 hr 35 minutes to get to the Frolic...about the same time to get to Atlanta...which I avoid at all costs. lol
Some nice properties out this way....Rome, Rockmart, Cedartown, Aragon, Lindale....this general area.

Funny…. I was in Atlanta in 2019. I thought the traffic was pretty light compared to here. Maybe lighter in mid summer?

I have never been through Atlanta where the traffic was mild, I used to deliver to all the major hospitals there, it was like driving through H E double hockey sticks!
Not sure what was up when you went through. :)

Traffic here is brutal here now. It’s worse than NY or Chicago
