I went to the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) fig fest yesterday. This event is organizer by @JC Figgy as part of the FB group, and he does a fabulous job. I’m not sure what the actual turnout was, but 194 people said they were coming. It was so nice to see many different types of people there—older, younger, families, groups of singles, many nationalities that reflects the DC area. The fig hobby has a solid future based on this level of interest.
There was a raffle (including an Irene’s Black Greek and number of 6-ft trees including a St Rita’s, Black Greek, etc) as well as giveaways. There was so much stuff that it took over an hour to give it all away at a rapid pace! They also had a fig tasting, pruning and fertigation demos.
It’s always great to compare notes with other growers. Despite the great fig ripening weather this season, everyone seems to be eating a lot fewer figs than normal because of pest pressure.
It was held at Two Story Chimney Ciderworks so I had to sample their product, of course. Here is my only photo I took of the event so I’d remember what I liked. Alongside a basic semi-sweet, they had a Seasonal Strawberry, a Ruby Red (hopped dry cider), and Pickle (surprisingly tasty, especially next to the more traditional varieties that brought out the salty pickle tang).

Jimmy is here and took a ton of photos so hopefully he can add more. Thank you again @JC Figgy for all you do for the DMV fig community!
