DIY Limb Spreaders

I have noticed that with these limbs tied down to a horizontal position, I have made a perfect perch for those pesky cat birds. They normally don't land in my fig trees very often but I have seen them much more now on this tree since they have this nice perch. I put an arrow on the first pic to show where this fig in the second pic is located. I guess i need some organza bags.

My point is that if you decide to tie your branches down like this, you might attract more birds.

The only thing that ever worked to get rid of catbirds in my yard was the mockingbirds moving in - now I’m stuck with them attacking everything and everyone around. It would be ideal if a non-fruit eating bully chases them out, but blue jays just don’t have the gumption to do so.

It's strange that the cat birds don't eat the blue berries. I see them land in the blueberry bushes and then just fly off. When I had ripe wild blackberries they were feasting on them. I don't even think they would have noticed that fig, if I wouldn't have tied that branch down. When all the other figs start ripening it maybe a different story. I think them birds are going to become a problem. The only other birds I think might be a problem is Robins but they are not as aggressive and obnoxious as cat birds. In my younger years I would have taken care of them with my pellet gun, but I have since changed my ways.
