Cutting budding out in refrig

Has anyone had a cutting start budding out in the refrigerator? I guess I didn’t catch how green it was when I received it or I would have started it right away. Anyway, I started working on my cuttings today (doing in batches) and discovered one just starting to bud out (the entire length). Concerned that it might leaf out before any roots. If that happens, should I remove leaves as they appear until I see roots?

I’ve had that occasionally. I would not remove the leaves though. I have had a cutting sprout leaves with no roots, then abort them, and finally sprout new ones after it had grown roots. As long as the conditions are consistently good, sometimes the cuttings can be pretty forgiving.

The timing of your post was perfect- I fig popped some Italian heirloom unknowns today and noticed the same - a very green cutting was starting to have swollen buds up and down the cutting.

I fig popped it anyways, but have my doubts since it was so, so green and now it has brown spots on it too (guessing it’s going bad), but we will see!

Keep me updated with results, please. I will do the same. Will be interesting to see.
