Amazing what a little pollen can do. Big difference between those and the pollinated ones. How is the flavor? My 2 year old tree dropped a few figs but kept most . This is what they look like when they ripen.
Didn't try it. Does this mean its not a common fig?Amazing what a little pollen can do. Big difference between those and the pollinated ones. How is the flavor?
It looks unripe from the pictures so maybe not common? Not sure but certainly looks non edible hahaDidn't try it. Does this mean its not a common fig?
If it was a smyrna type it would have dropped before that point. The figs look ripe. But not sure I would grow it without the plan of hand pollinating it.Didn't try it. Does this mean its not a common fig?
Are there other fig varieties that look like this when they ripen? If it was a smyrna type it would have dropped before that point. The figs look ripe. But not sure I would grow it without the plan of hand pollinating it.
The place where I purchased the cuttings sells it as being a common fig. Is that technically true. Can you have common figs that aren't edible? If it was a smyrna type it would have dropped before that point. The figs look ripe. But not sure I would grow it without the plan of hand pollinating it.
My Belmonts beauty looks just like that when it ripens here. I have heard others say it ripens great for them. Some figs need the wasp/pollen to shine. I would say it is common. But if that is the way it ripens with out wasp. I would not grow it or make sure I pollinate it.Are there other fig varieties that look like this when they ripen?
You ate one! Thanks for taking one for the team. I'll take your word for it.Had this variety for 3 years and dropped all it's fruit 1st year. 2nd and 3rd dropped most of its figs except a few that looked like the ones pictured they tasted pretty bad. I culled it.
Thanks for your input, I knew you would have some ideas on what was going on. Definitely the cull pile.My Belmonts beauty looks just like that when it ripens here. Good luck! When I researched it, I found reports of people ripening it in Tennessee and Georgia. I have a tree that should fruit next year.
