caprifig for 6b?

I was thinking that it would be interesting to try hand-pollinating at some point in the future.  To that end, it seems like it would be useful to start growing a persistent male caprifig this spring.  It would be a bonus if the caprifig produced edible fruit.  My location is in 6b MA.  Is there a variety that would work/be best here? Thanks for any advice.

Are you going to put it in a greenhouse over winter or garage? Capri Q is pretty easy to find and has a tasty main crop. Just remember to prune for breba crop. The profichi is the male's breba crop. Which is the crop with the pollen.

It would be in the basement for the winter.
Could you say a bit more about pruning?  Does pruning for breba just mean leaving previous year's growth?

Yes. The least amount of pruning the better. If you have two trees. You can prune one and leave the old growth on the other. Than the next year prune the other one. That way you could control the size somewhat.
