I had NO idea my one fig in the ground ( the other 40 are in large pots ), would take off and triple in size during one of the dryest hottest summers I remember, BUT, It's literally taken over where I planted it. I can't see anything under it , my lilies, etc. We are hoping to move in the fall, really thought I'd already be out of here, but I'd like to cut it back, maybe two or three bottom branches. Is it just too hot to do that ? I really can't imagine anything killing a fig.
