Big day out tomorrow

We’re going to take a ride out to the Highland area.  They’re having their hands and harvest festival.  Should be a nice affair.  It’s up in the town of Monterey.  That area is very beautiful, people call it “Little Switzerland “.  It’s about 1 1/2 hours from us.  Wonder if they’ll have anything fig related.

Awesome! Please take a few pics for us if you can...

I love small town festivals, everywhere! There's so much local pride....

This reminds me of the little towns in the hills of Calabria that have festa's on weekends in the summer. There's always one in driving distance... and they're always a lot of fun.

Skim through the southern italian dialogue (they have a southern accent) . I attend every harvest festival I can in Canada and back in Italy. I'd love to attend some in the US.

This is a polenta festival we went to years ago in one of my home towns

@"Figgerlickinggood"#7 Sounds like a wonderful adventure for the two of you... LOL don't eat too much, sounds like a food Adventure. Lots of pictures please @"TorontoJoe"#1, speaking of Adventure aren't you supposed to get the northern lights tonight? How often do you see them in canada??

The day was wonderful.  The ride going to and returning was wonderful and adventurous.  We literally drove over a mountain.  It was high enough that our ears would plug up when going up the mountain and would pop when going down. The view when we reached the top was breathtaking.  There was rows of mountain ranges 1 behind the other like lasagna just beautiful.  I would have taken a picture but there was no place to pull over and the road was one sharp curve after another going up and going down.  We literally “snaked” our way over the mountain.
Anyway we got there in about 1 hour ride.  We first went to Duff’s Sugar House.  The owner is actually one of my husband’s customers.  He has a large property.  Even has a nice little pond stocked with fish,  a nice size apple orchard.  They make and sell different food products.  I said to him what you need is a fig tree.  He laughed and told us his mother in law gave them a cutting once from her Brown Turkey.  It grew into a big bush shape.  Had it for 10 yrs and never set one fig.  Mother’s tree was loaded with figs and couldn’t figure why the cutting never did.  Anyway here’s some pictures.

Don’t know how that posted twice but I can’t figure out how to delete one.  Here’s a picture of the owner Tim and his wife Terry.  Also anyone know their apples?  Here’s a picture of a very old apple tree in the yard can you tell what variety it is?  It’s a vary old variety.

By the time we left Tim’s place and went to the center of town to see the other exhibits there was soooo many people that there was absolutely no place to park our car so we stopped at a little restaurant and then went home.  We still enjoyed the day though.

Wow such beautiful country out there!
And I'll tell ya...Applebutter is one of my weaknesses!! lol
I used to get it from a place..only 4 ingredients.
Hard to find that now.
I need a day like that.

@"Figgerlickinggood"#7. Teresa what a lovely weekend trip. You guys deserve it for having worked so hard on your recent move. Applause :D Sounds like your husband has customers from over an hour's drive away. Maybe he could do something for me?? God knows I need it. I was a little confused, was all the Apple pictures, and the pond pictures from Duff’s Sugar House? The place owned by Tim? or 2 places ?? I figure that wasn't a bend in the river because you only going to aerate a pond. Teresa I guess you live in Paradise, but it's old friends that make it that way. Now what did y'all get to eat? Fresh Apple ice cream we know you had some apple cider, and some apple butter. I am very curious about the food yummies consumed on this weekend getaway. LOL don't forget the restaurant.

@"TorontoJoe"#1. Joe the system still needs more work I couldn't give Teresa the 10 likes she deserved for writing this threaded post. Especially cuz it was my favorite post of the week. Members who can write such wonderful threaded posts have a true gift, that makes this Figfanatic world go round.

@"Figless"#18   all the photos are from Duffs sugar house.  This is where he lives, it’s his property.  B TW no one guessed the variety of apple I posted the picture of and the tree it came from.  It’s an old variety called “Stayman Wine Sap”.
