Best Adriatic?

I would like to add another fig tree to my collection. I am interested in Adriatics. I already have a Green Ischia tree and a Strawberry Verte cutting in a Solo cup. I don't have much experience with these figs and haven't tasted any of them. I know that flavor is subjective and people prefer different figs based on their tastes, and some varieties grow better in certain climates. I am in east Texas zone 8b. I would like to know what are your favorite Adriatics and why. Input from fig growers with much more experience than me, will help me to narrow down my choices and make a decision on which one to purchase. I have read that some people will argue that varieties that do not have an origin in the Adriatic region, are not Adriatic figs. I don't know if that is true, or if "Adriatic" is a flavor group. When I say that I am interested in Adriatic varieties, I mean a green fig with red pulp and likely berry flavor. For example, I am interested in LSU Strawberry but I don't know if it is considered Adriatic. How is LSU Strawberry compared to the other varieties? Is there any that I should stay away from? I read that JH Adriatic is not rain resistant. Also some varieties may take a few years before they even start to bear fruit, I read that about Verdino Del Nord and Thermalito. Are they worth the wait? How is Ventura? I found a good deal on a Ventura but I don't know if it's any good. From reading old forum posts, White Madeira #1 seems to be ranked at the top when it comes to flavor. Is it really that good? I've heard that Green Ischia is the same thing as Strawberry Verte, is that true? I have a lot of questions, thanks for reading this far. Some of the ones I am considering are Battaglia, Paradiso, Rockaway Green, Prosciutto, LSU Strawberry, Angelito, White Madeira #1, Harry's Crete, Green Michurinska, and Thermalito. Are there any that I should remove from that list, or any that I should add to the list? What are your favorites and which one should I avoid? Thanks

I have fruited Prosciutto Unk, WM#1, Sister Madeline Green Greek, and Ponte Tresa. The flavor is very similar—WM#1 was a slightly sharper berry than Prosciutto Unk that I would not have noticed if I weren’t sampling them side-by-side. Ponte Tresa had a slightly thicker/dense texture.

I have Angelito, Vince #3 Unk, Battaglia Green, Paradiso (and maybe more) to look forward to try this season.

I agree Thermalito has been a disappointment so far—more green growth than fruit.

I agree with Mike above 100%....stay clear of Thermolito.
I left mine out all winter because I was done with it...but it lived and put out a few breba...I will let it go this year but I'm not keeping it after this.
JHA seems like one of the latest.
Lake Spur Unk is good...but I think it is the same as some of the others ones.
LSU Strawberry is just that, a great strawberry flavored fig....but not that complex.
I have the Verdino Del Nord Unk...it's really good, maybe not one of the best.
Some of the others I have not had.

I have all of these on your list, some going on 5 seasons and some on their second season. Only one I’m missing is paradiso. I will say the strawberry and green ischia being several years old fully ripened are hard to beat. Green ischia in the first couple years split bad but last two years was perfect. Hadoulis F white and vasilika sika were delicious also and probably the best of “Adriatics” I was able to taste last year. I’m hoping to get at least one ripe from all my figs especially some that didn’t fruit season one and now going on season two.

Man in my opinion, WM#1 is a staple.
Heavy producer, excellent quality.
Earlier than some, at least here in Georgia.
Also Green Michurinska, some do not consider it an Adriatic, but it is green with red interior.
But earlier than all the others.
Wm#1 is the standard for Adriatics. Jha is late for me but sister madeline green Greek, Rockaway green, Angelito, green Michurinska are all good tasting variety that do well for me here in Pa

I have SMGG but have not tried the figs yet, hopefully this year.

I removed Thermalito from the list and added a couple of others but I think White Madeira #1 is going to be the winner.

Adriatics are like Mt Etnas, Everyones got a few lol. Photo below is when a pile of Adriatics from last summer all mixed together. You really cant go wrong.

Green Michurinska is an early adriatic-ish- I'd get one for sure.
Proscuitto was a champ and was ripening all the way into winter.
GMDL was super good last year, though I only had a few on this young tree.
WM1 is a staple.
Green Ischia and Strawberry verte are really alike in flavor.

I will not lie...I probably would have eaten all those myself. LOL

I grow those "Adriatic" figs. I've not found major difference among them. WM #1 is good, but not a game changer. I did not include
Green Michurinska here. It is good too. But it is different than all the other figs in this group.

What is the best one? I do not know. It is like asking: what is the best Mt. Etna fig. 10 people can have 10 different answers.

Adriatic AE (North Carolina)
Adriatic JH
Battaglia Green
Green Ischia
Lake Spur
Mariani Carini Green
Mercedes Gem
Prosciutto
Sister Madeline Green Greek
St. Martin
Vasilika Sika (Adriatic)
White Madeira #1

I almost forgot since I didn’t get to eat any last year becuase of a major heading cut I gave it in winter.

Verdolino is like the Moro de Caneva of Adriatics in shape.

It was one of the most sweet and intense berry I’ve had. I drool thinking of it.

Do you have all of these planted inground? Have you noticed any difference in early/late lignification or die back? I only grow AJH inground and it was late to lignify and died back to a few feet above ground this past Winter.

I grow in ground only the smaller and earlier fig varieties, such asMariani Carini Green, Lake Spur and Mercedes GEM. They are more hardy too. Earlier than the Adriatic JH.

Love Verdolino...very tasty fig!

There are still many that I have not tried yet, but Battaglia Green is one of my favorite figs. And is Smith considered an adriatic? Or is it just in a class by itself? Smith is still my favorite fig or all my figs. Not a fan of Green Ischia.

It looks good.

I do not grow this variety. It looks more like the Green Michurinska or so. It is different than the core of the "Adriatic" figs.

The "core" Adriatic figs are darker and flavor is intense strawberry. Not the light berry flavor most of the reviews stated.
