Bat House

Anyone ever tried a bat house? The idea is that the bats will move into these houses and then eat the mosquitoes and gnats in your yard. Maybe they will even eat those sharpshooters and ambrosia beetles.

I actually have been checking into them recently myself. There was a guy on Joe Rogan talking about bats. No idea about beetles. I assume they would need to be flying around when bats are

I saw a portion of that JRE podcast. It sounds really cool if you can get the bats to move into the house. I think the guy said that it could take a few months or a couple years for bats to make the place a home.

After reading that web page, it seems that bats will eat ambrosia beetles and fungus gnats. I'm sure sharpshooters are on the menu as well.

I put one up in my backyard thinking it would be great to have something to eat bugs. Well it's been up on a post in the open since 1997 and never had a bat in it. I know there are bats in the area as I see them flying around at dusk and dawn. I think you would be better off putting up housing for Black Martins.

I had bats in my attic once...covered my truck with black gold...lol
Had a batman come get them out of there.
I have them now flying around my yard everyday.

It was a small one. But I use that term often with animal's.
Had a beautiful Boa that was over 9ft. Called her little one as well.

I love bats... mostly because I hate mosquitoes. I build a bat house out of cedar maybe 7 years ago. We see bats all the time but I've never seen evidence of any roosting in the house I built. I had to scale a pole maybe 8-10 meters tall to install it.... You'd think the bats would have some courtesy and move in

We even have a fountain for them next door.

Like LadyGT i tried it years ago but no luck. Maybe you'll have better luck? Can't hurt to try! IIRC they each eat 1000 mosquitos a night so def beneficial if they live nearby.

There are fruit eating bats or fruit bats. Do they like figs, berries that I grow? How do I filter out fruit bats and just invite insect eating bats?
My understanding is bats adjust their diet to whatever is abundant (to an extent).
