Anyone ever buy off Horticulture Source? Also what size pot do you prefer for your 1-3 year old fig trees?

Found a decent deal for 3 gal pots (For those of us who live without people who sell them for less than 2-3 dollars a pot (and even higher sometimes) but I'm wondering a) is this website legit (seems ok from my research) and b) am i wasting time with a 3 gal pot, should I really do 7 or 5? I imagine a lot of my trees i will sell by year 3, but I dont really want to have to up pot them before then.

I’ve been told a 3 gal is a good size to put them in for awhile until you decide to up pot. I usually skip straight to a 5gal bucket, but was told you will have great growth in a 3g.

I purchased some of the 8-gal square GroPro pots from them in 2023 (two orders) without any problems. I was surprised when I clicked the logo just now and it took me to Amazon though.

I use 3-gallon pots as the intermediary between a treepot and an 8-gallon pot. Because I'm a heavy feeder/waterer, they can outgrow 3-gallon in a season (ie, 10+ft tall and circled roots). I have kept trees in there for 2 seasons if I don't get around to uppotting them on time. I like the 3-gal because you can usually fruit it to see if you like it and it's still small enough to be easily handled/stacked.

yeah some spots take you to amazon which is what made me sus .... but lots of good reviews. might just be a weird bug

I think I’d see if Lowe’s or someplace could sell you a deal in 5 gallon buckets and then drill drain holes. When I was comparing size and cost 5 gallon buckets seemed to be pretty good deal.

Following a fig friend's advice, I go from a 4x9 to a 2 gal ($1.25 each - 10% discount),
and then to a 10 gal squat pot ($5.50 each - 10% discount) where they will stay.

Don’t forget to check for food safe buckets from water ice and like stores. I grab empty açaí buckets from Playa Bowls all the time. They don’t have handles, but work well for larger cuttings and they’re free!

interesting... mine was 2,466... well nevermind that.im guessing they are shipping each item individually lmao ? i have no idea...well back to square one on sourcing 100 3 gallon pots for less than 400 dollars

Some businesses do that to trick you to go into their websites for their “ incredibly low prices” but the rest of the price is actually in the shipping and “handling”, so it works out to be the same or even more expensive.

I dont think that can possibly be the case.here. no one would ever buy a pot with 240 dollar each shipping. Like the numbers are too inflated to make any sense.

Some sandwich shops sell and/or giveaway their 5gallon food grade pickle buckets. We have Firehouse Subs around here and they used to have signs up for buckets for a $3 donation. Haven't been in a while though. I've heard other places like Jimmy Johns and Jersey Mikes gives them away.

Where do you find the 10 gallons at with a 10% discount?
Moderators, please feel free to step in if I'm not supposed to post information about specific vendors!

I get my pots at "RASA Garden Supply" in San Jose: https://www.rasahydroponics.com/

2 gal pots: https://www.rasahydroponics.com/gro-pro-premium-round-nursery-pot.html?id=6481686&quantity=1
10 gal pots: https://www.rasahydroponics.com/gro-pro-premium-round-nursery-pot.html?id=6483238&quantity=1

I gave them my information to put into their system, and now I get a 10% discount on anything I buy there.
I think most of the big box stores have similar loyalty programs.

I purchased 10 of the 8gallon Gro Pro square pots from BGHyrdo. All 10 pots with shipping was $82. They have the 2 and 5 gallon pots as well.

For 1-3 year old trees 7 ga nursery would be my recommendation. Up potting 2x a year gets old and the 7 gal allows trees to grow into them.

wonder how crappy these are....... 37 for 25 3 gallons and for 5 gallons its 44/25

I think i can get away with only potting the 50 unique guys and selling/donating any and all duplicates

If you need 100 you can go with AM Leonard - $124.18 for 120, 3-gallon pots. Spend another $30 to get free shipping or wait until they offer it.

I heard or saw something about h not using black pots in my hot heat zone 9a area. If I'm wanting to put some trees in bigger pots (2 year trees) to see if the will make the cut to go inground the following year and wanted to use the five gallon home Depot homer size buckets size buckets do I really need to look for white ones? Anyone else in a hot zone know? Last year they were in 5 gallon black nursery pots but I kept them in shade half the day cause some were really young

When temps start hitting high triple digits roots can cook. Some people wrap or paint their pots to help with root zone heat. I think it also depends on pot size(I killed a couple trees in small pots)
