We picked our first Algerian Cheouti today after noticing it was dripping honey today from a 2-yr old tree in an 8-gallon pot. (Sorry for the blurry photo from my hubby—I’m not able to go into the fig patch because I’ve hurt my foot and need to keep the stitches clean.)

Like a Smith, it was ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside. Unlike a Smith, the flavor was a soft raspberry with a touch of tartness whereas the Smith tastes like pure strawberry to me.

This ripened in less than ideal conditions—cloudy, cold and intermittent rain for over a week. There was some splitting from the eye.

Texture was more cake batter than jammy or dense with moderate seed crunch.
