Absolute Infestation!

@lkibahd @Figgerlickinggood there is a electric lure that they are very attracted too. Teresa noticed it last year when her town was inundated by Lantern flies. There was some electric light or device that they were totally mesmerized with in the front of a Home Depot.. I believed it was decided it was a certain megahertz that just Bewitched them. What I would do is ask Teresa about that post, once they're off your trees I would dispense with them with a pyrethroid probably Permethrin. You could just start with the Permethrin and they will drop off the tree.

I remember that. I posted about my son works at Walmart and those flys were all over the sidewalk in front of the store. Thanks for reminding me.

Yes but weren't they mesmerized, and attracted by some electronic device they were swarming all over the sidewalk in front of it.

I got a hand vacuum and it works *decently* except that it sucks the leaves in easily which also spooks the bugs to jump away faster…

This article explains its life cycle and control options. e.g. Circle traps, sticky band traps
a bunch of systemic or contact based insecticide, from organic to more persistent(also tend to be more toxic).

Shop vac should take care of the ones you can reach. The only problem is they lay eggs on tall trees nearby so setting traps to those trees would help.

I've had them around for a few years now. The first year was the worst numbers wise. The first year I tried numerous ways to get rid of them and it ended up I did more damage to the trees myself from my methods then the SLF ever thought of doing. I haven't done a thing the last two years and have observed NO damage from SLF on any fig tree. I did find out that a super light wafting of Seven dust made them disappear.

Their populations have been down the last few years, but I just read an article that this year there’s supposed to be a resurgence. Not sure what’s driving that theory.
