I admire "The Italian Man" for his knowledge, love, and care for fig trees. My family and friends just look at me like a weirdo. I other cultures, they would be the weird ones

I am Mexican American, so we are big on maize, beans, peppers, etc. It's kind of funny that I fell in love with a Mediterranean fruit. Kind of ironic

Hey, @TorontoJoe , how does The Italian Man shape his fig tree in cold weather? I was kind of surprised to see such a large tree in that documentary. I would think lower branches would be easier to harvest. Does the cold mean you can't prune as hard?

Many years into growing... this Italian man is still learning. My best advise right now is to keep as much new, budding growth on the tree. Thick trunks can handle a lot of cold, but send out fruiting wood very late....
