A nice surprise at the Food Lion

I don't buy fruit out of season because I know they are imported and don't taste as good. I found the best cherries are from CA in early summer. The ones from Oregon or Washington have very little flavor too.

very strange, washington definatley has the best cherries in my opinion!

But i also dont buy fruit out of season. more expensive, and taste worse. the double whammy. this time of year its oranges only. Cara cara's finally hit the shelf in season, theyre great!

I used to live in CA and grew all my own fruit so I guess I am biased. lol I love citrus and currently have 17 varieties. I love being able to grow my own and know my fruit will be good. Some fruit at the store lately has had bland flavors. It's hit or miss with citrus at Kroger. I have a Cara Cara too which is just producing fruit this year.

No citrus can grow here unless i bring it inside and im not doing that lol. I dream of one day having a greenhouse I can grow a cara cara in. Its my fave

Yeah, the citrus shuffle can get old. My trees are only inside 4 months. I thought about building a greenhouse, but then I would still have to worry about heating or cooling it as needed.

Good cherries can be grown into some pretty cool zones. There’s a street maybe 10 minutes walk from me. When the build the houses they lined both sides of the street with some sort of sweet cherry. It’s beautiful during blossom and in the early fall many head there to graze as they stroll. Other streets around me have cherry trees as well on public land but not the entire street like that one.

I love the idea of cities planting zone appropriate fruit along roads for residents to enjoy. Although perhaps it could get messy in some places

people overreact to mess. I have 2 sweet cherry trees planted in my hellstrip. i hope to eventually post them all on falling fruit so people can share in my bounty :) myy apples are quite close to the road as well. well everything is pretty close, i live on a small corner property lol. Right now my plan is i have a little library set up where people can put in their fruit requests and i'll bag some for them, hopefully to stop people picking before theyre ripe
