It’s not that cold today, but coming in a few days we’ll be hitting those temps. This isnt uncommon for my area but anyone else getting the polar vortex?. I have a cold frame greenhouse but spent the day bringing all my trees into my basement. I would have to run a heater full time at this point.
Someone here constructed a wooden box and then wrapped in the concrete insulation blanket. Can't remember who but I think @TorontoJoe copied it in a post.Has anyone looked at the concrete insulation blankets? I was wondering about hanging one inside greenhouse or draping over it during winter.
I run a heater in my greenhouse. Currently -1f feels like -13f but its 77f in the greenhouse. I use a small vevor diesel heater connected to an afterburner thermostat. I've also insulated the greenhouse and added some lights for the winter as well. This isnt uncommon for my area but anyone else getting the polar vortex?. Very nice setup. I Could run a heater, my greenhouse is a coldframe, so that being said for me to turn it into what you are doing would take a lot of work. I have basically unlimited grow space indoors so i put my money into lights heater etc for an indoor tent, to extend my season for figs. I still use the greenhouse but i basically render it useless for these 2 or 3 months of brutal winter. My issue being is my grow room ceiling is fairly low so i cant start my big trees in pots til around mid february. Then they will go in the greenhouse and heated til its nice enough outside.I run a heater in my greenhouse. Currently -1f feels like -13f but its 77f in the greenhouse. I watched that very older italian gentleman on youtube i think its spicynonna he does that to his inground trees. Very interesting, i will have a row of inground trees i will likely need to do this to next year.Someone here constructed a wooden box and then wrapped in the concrete insulation blanket. I tarp my greenhouse, it helps a lot especially from the elements but eventually it just gets too cold here. I thought about making a box out of insulation board and just using some lighting inside to keep it warm. But i just decided to tuck them away in basement its 55. May wake them but i will deal with that if it happensHas anyone looked at the concrete insulation blankets? I was wondering about hanging one inside greenhouse or draping over it during winter.
My house is small and full of children so my greenhouse is my little spot. I did underestimate the growth rate of some of my trees and it does get stressful worrying about a failure with heating. I definitely wish I could have a more secure indoor area for winter.Very nice setup. Yes that’s it. Isn’t that wrapped in concrete blanket?I think you may be referring to the fig sarcophagus that @Tinyfish uses
FWIW, if you have the yard space and don't want to fill up the garage, @Tinyfish employs the sarcophagus method. It's an outstanding way to store figs. No added heat. No watering over the winter. Just lay them down and let the earth take care of the trees
It can be as simple as a wooden raised bed with some covering to hold in the earth's heat

Heard they work good but the good quality ones are expensive.Has anyone looked at the concrete insulation blankets? I was wondering about hanging one inside greenhouse or draping over it during winter.

Yes, I used search function with his name and found post.Concrete blanket is an excellent choice but I don’t recall now. Let’s see if we can get @Tinyfish ‘s attention to ask him![]()
We're definitely getting some cold temps consistently...this morning it was right around 20.
I still don't like it. lol
It's not SUPPOSED to be cold here. But try telling Mother Nature that....I thought y’all live down south because it’s not supposed to be cold there?![]()
