Will this root?

This is a little branch that was budding on my Improved Celeste that was almost completely broken off. So I removed it and thought maybe I could try to root it in water. So I stuck it in a boiled egg holder. It seemed the perfect size with a little water. Just not sure if I should cut off the browned end of the stem where it broke off.

I've rooted them directly into soil many times. I actually have one now in my garden that is rooting and just started new growth.

Id probably put a humidity dome over it for a while.
Might be alright though.

I just sticked a broken tomato seedling back to its pot and it rerooted with no issue. I would think you can do the same thing to this fig branch.
