First Bordissot Negra Rimada (BNR)

I finally picked my first BNR yesterday. I wasn't expecting much since this was the first fruit off the tree and it wasn't even swollen properly. I just forgot about it for a week. This turns out to be something worth waiting. My tree was uppotted from a tree pot in late May so I have been worrying about ripening before season end.

The second pic is on the second fruit of the tree. The one picked was right behind in the organza bag.

Wow. Look at that dark color. Pure strawberry jam!

I was surprised by its unique and complex flavors. I thought the tree abort the first fig because it didn't swell properly. Now, I am looking forward to the other one to ripen as we have cooler nights.

There was a critter that was snatching my figs (even unripe ones). Not sure what it was. It got 5 of my Black Manzanita, and only 1 was ripe. I am moving the trees with ripe figs inside at night to wait out the culprit. As always, they would go for the ripe fruits on the trees first before the ones in the traps.

Yet another confirmation that first figs off a first year tree can be quite outstanding.

The creature is most likely a coon or a possum. Ideally, you want to know what it is to deal with it properly. I have a camera pointed at the trees. Once it finds out there is food, it be coming. You need to deal with it. The best way, IMHO, is to have an electric fence, if possible.

Yeah, I wish this kind of pleasant surprise is more common.

I moved the trees with ripened fruit inside at night. I did see a skunk a few nights ago. A loner, unlike the whole family last year, sniffled around this time.

It is just a bit more excitement than I look for when dealing with skunks. 😆

I had no idea that skunks were into figs until one started showing up in my backyard and eating what he could reach from the ground. I'd never believe it if I didn't see it on the video footage. My backyard is fenced in, but there was a spot where he could get in under the fence. Once I patched it, he stopped coming.
