To keep or not to keep

Brebas. I remember back in 2020 when I first started this hobby and joined the other forum it was a popular subject. Some didn’t think it that important when they would prune while others would never think of doing that. For me from the first time I ate my first Breba would never want to lose them.
What’s your preference?

I have read several studies on commercial fig production. And the reports said a heavy Breba crop came at the expense of main crop and a heavy main crop came at the expense of the Breba. So commercially if you targeted one or the other, you could manage your trees to optimize the crop you wanted. Or balance between the two as to have the longest possible harvest season.
Personally we have not eaten a ton of brebas, but they are never as good(so far) as the main crop.

I've eaten very few breba because my trees are not that old but they were really good especially this one from my Peter's honey. It was big and so sweet. Breba is so nice after not having any fresh figs since last season.

It makes sense to grow only san pedros for breba. Desert King, Grantham's Royal come to mind.

I’ll be trying for breba on two of my trees this season, Byadi and Molise Red. Last year, Byadi set dozens, but only a few matured. Hopefully this year breba will hold and I can compare to main crop. The sole breba I got from Molise Red was much better than main crop - if the tree can set and hold more breba, I may try to protect it this coming Winter, as it’s going inground this year.

I always enjoy them and there's some that only get breba's whether because the main crop is too late, or they're the San Pedro type needing the wasp for the main crop to hold.

I have a pair of Niwaki secateurs

But my goto's are a pair of Okatsune, maybe the best pair of clippers I've ever used period.

Either one would do some serious damage to your fingers/hand if not paying attention.

You get a pair of Okatsune's and you'll be like "What have I been doing my whole life??" They're that good. For the price and quality can't be beat.

As far as saws, love the Silky's

@TorontoJoe
