Big Box Store Figs Have Arrived

Wow! My store (HD) does not get that many! We got 6 whips last year that had been totally ignored, a were not good for anything. I reported it, they shrugged and into the compactor they went.
That’s rough. Where I am we don’t get figs. I’ve even talked to managers to try to order one to the store and they wouldn’t even do that. Will give credit where it’s due, the manager made the call and tried but to no avail.

Last year, Lowes had a few Chicago hardy and desert king in May. That’s the first time they had anything other than Chicago hardy.

I work at Lowes here in north, central Kentucky. Not a great selection so far but I will take any harbinger of spring that I can get.

Kadota and Beers Black. Is kadota the same as Peter's Honey?
I purchased a Beers Black last year from Lowe’s . It grew very well. It was same size as your picture and by the end of the season it was 4 feet tall and set figs but they didn’t have time enough to ripen. Now I’m anxious to see if it survived the winter.

Kadota and Peter’s Honey are in the same family of honey fig types much like the Mt. Etnas are the same family like Chicago Hardy, St. Rita, and others. For me I prefer Peter’s Honey over Kadota.

I found one fig at the end of the season at HD last year. I think it was a Brown Turkey hidden next to the boxwoods and other decorative stuff.

I forgot about the boxed items inside. Same variety too. I remember a few years ago that Lowes offered other types in 1 gallon containers for about $10. They didn't look impressive as most of them needed some major shaping. As gardening season is just beginning, more things will come in. You just have to go more often to see what has come off the truck.

I work at Lowes, full time, so I will keep the forum notified. 😄
