Fig bud mite via cuttings

Actually, after the leaves fell off the affected tree and it had been exposed to temps of 25°F, I treated the stem with CO2 (dry ice generated inside bag sealed to stem). I suppose I could treat cuttings the same way.

Not quite. I place the tree in a contractor's garbage bag, press the air out, then fill the bag with CO2 gas, like a balloon, tie it up really tight, and let it sit for 8 hours.

Hmmm... wonder how that would work on raccoons? 🙄

Nah... they'd tear right through the bag.

My current solution for mites on small trees - fig bud or spider - is 100% CO2 gas. 8 hours, and everything living in there, and their eggs will be toast. Very effective based on my experience and 100% organic.

For those that want to try the CO2 method but don't have a cylinder of CO2 readily available (or prefer to keep it connected to their beer tap): if your plant is still small enough, put it in a big trash bag, put a tablet of dry-ice in there (away from the pot as it's really, REALLY cold), close the bag, and punch a single, tiny hole in it so it won't explode when the dry-ice evaporates.

In a pure CO2 environment, there will be an immediate loss of consciousness. Won't be able to tear through anything in that state.

That is a humane way to deal with critters but double check to make sure it is legal locally. I don't have a CO2 tank though.

It is a bit difficult to wrap a cage with a live racoon inside without it touching the bag.

I bought a big tupperware storage box that can house the whole cage for transporting skunks. Maybe you can use something that as enclosure.

I was joking. While it is legal for me to trap and relocate…. It is illegal to harm them…. And I don’t. Even if I was inclined to do so, it would be more difficult for me to deal with

I could never do that, not even if I were paid a lot of money to do so, but IT IS LEGAL to "kill most wild animals, if the animal is causing damage to your property" in Ontario. Figs are your property, and coons are not on the protected list.
