The $1000 fig tree

"Oh, sir was that a fig cutting from the US?" "Uhh well you see there is no disease, and it has no root/soil born pest." "Yes, but is it from the US?" Well........

If I could just buy this place. The front door is in the US and back door in Canada

GREAT IDEA ! MESSAGE me when escrow closes with the new us address and the cuttings will start to flow like a broken beaver dam !

@figologist , @grasshopper @Drew351 ,and all y'all. This is clearly insane, the price escalation in a few weeks is off the chart. Nevertheless dear oat it is likely to always carry a premium price now over pasquale. Just like Irene's Black Greek will always cost more than Borjosotte Grise. Or White Baca, over 505H. Even though they are all likely to be synonyms of each other. Sigh I was just inches away from sealing a deal on Sicilian 33 last night. Now it goes into my book of failures, like the Bitcoin I didn't buy for $5 Once Upon a Time.
You can still buy for 100k lol. I’m still trying to add Sicilian 33 lol

Correction. It appears the road is on the Canadian side and the US houses back onto the road.

Also backing onto the road.... there's a nice little B&B called the Smuggler's Inn.... Don't be fooled by the name. They have some crazy security to make sure nobody crosses the border :D

Hi All
I’ve seen these must have fig’s many times over the years. I’ve seen crazy and ridiculous prices realized in the past. They never hold true over time
I’ve seen hundred dollar cuttings down to $10.00 after a couple of years.
Hold out. It will come

I think you're correct. Definitely if the value is being considered for a tree that will produce lots of good quality figs for your home.

But, legitimately, there are some people make the informed decision and who are willing to pay big bucks and take a chance on something new for the excitement, and the potential of what it might be. Someone who is a collector vs, just someone who wants to grow excellent figs... They want the rare and harder to get fig. I feel it's valid... at least for them.

Then there's the buyer who pays $2500+ for a tree... not because they feel it'll provide them $2500 quality figs... and not because they are collectors... They're investing. They figure they can grow it out fast enough to sell it and make a profit. In my opinion, as long as nothing is being misrepresented there's nothing wrong with that either. I think Angelito is a good example of this. It's an outstanding fig. One of the best. Would I have ever paid $2500 for a tree? No way. I just grow the trees for myself. If I was a seller and felt I could grow it out and share cuttings and trees as an investment.... Sure

Will the cost come down over time... definitely.

My $0.02

@coop , You've been growing figs a long time and have a stellar reputation... If I sold figs and had I new variety that I thought was really hot, I'd want to send it to you gratis just for your endorsement! :D

Tree's are only worth what someone is willing to spend.
I remember watching this one.
Me too

TJ you need a mail box on some remote back road one foot on the US side of the boarder so you can recieve your nodes by reaching in the box while 80% of you stays in CANAD

$2,482 to be exact. Looks like it was purchased to keep the missus happy - the buyer's handle was '1-more-4-the-mrs' :) The things men will do to keep their wives happy :D

As a single woman, I just have one thing to say about your comment…

Just where are these so called kind of men?!
😆 j/k!
