Smith Figs

Sorry, no pics. Just shared a couple Smith Figs with my daughter. They were knocked off of the tree last night with the rain according to her. Which means, she probably pulled them off. Hahaha. Anyways, the first 2-3 we had from it weren’t good at all. Tasted earthy and just weren’t good. The couple we ate today reminded me of a strawberry jam. Pretty cool to finally have some figs that taste good!

They are some of my favorites, and one of the only varieties I hand pollinated that worked well. :)

Smith is definitely one of those 2 to 3 yrs trees...most even to produce.
I know mine were and I had 5 Smith trees from 3 sources.
I'm down to 3 now.
A must have for everyone though. :)
I’m not sure how old this tree is. It’s deff a couple years old. Just not exactly sure as it was a given to me a while back. The crazy smith cutting I have is from this tree though lol. So it’s cuttings are crazy vigorous.

I keep forgetting to pick one up at cutting season. I always get excited about something else. It's been on my list forever.

I got a picture for yall today! lol this one was by far the best fig off of the tree so far. It had fallen off of the tree and into the bag, so it may have been better in a few more days, but when you have a fig hungry kid and dogs running around it is what it is and you take what you can get. lol

I could probably get a few cuttings from my tree as Plan C if all else fails lol. There’s a couple skinny branches growing in non desirable directions, so I’ll probably do a few cuttings and rooting some next year.

This is the problem I have with smith. Unless it’s getting to that stage of ripeness it’s lackluster and I just don’t enjoy it as much.

Smith is best when it's really ugly.
Just have to resist picking them too early. lol
Unfortunately sometimes with weather and critters lurking I’m forced to pick a tad early. ☹️ that’s why I’m searching for varieties that I can pick a tad early and say “that’s good”. Hopefully smith performs different in ground than in a pot, because my in ground one has found its way this year is loaded.
