Pro Mix

I picked up this bag of promix this morning at Walmart. It’s 2cf compressed into 1cf. There was 2 different types, this red one I bought and a yellow one. Mine says potting mix the yellow said garden soil. I have a fig tree to up pot and I have some fig cuttings I’ll need to root. Is this promix the same as the promix ph in the big silver bag? Anybody ever use this promix?

A little worried Teresa the word moisture so prominently on the Pro mix bag makes me think of an artificial moisture retentive material being included. Also to be honest the extreme small size of pro-mix with perlite seems to preclude any usefulness with aeration. As always I recommend adding perlite #3 into the mix it's the Goldilocks size of perlite

I always add perlite to any potting mix I use because they always put so little in the mix. I’ve never used this promix before so I was just wondering about it.

I use this for my outdoor potted figs. It’s not the same as the silver ProMix that is great for cuttings. It has coco coir in it (10-20% by volume). I bought it because it was the cheapest (only 2.97 on clearance last February). I haven’t had any problems with it—using it as part of a 4-2-1 mix.

Took the kids to VA Safari today and passed by Staunton and thought of you. 😅 Funny how figs are always on my mind.

Oh and that Promix works just fine. Add perlite and you’re golden. I like to add some leaf compost , worm castings and a dash of lime too.

We almost went to that park once a couple of years ago when my grandchildren came but then we got bad weather so we stayed home. Some day we'll get there.
