Perfectly ripened! For me, it's still I-258. It may change later this year or next, who knows when, but so far, this one is still it. Consistently productive, consistently superiorly tasty, and has been ripening quite well in my climate. Such a treat for me every time I taste it.

This variety has been very vigorous for me. Also, slow to wake up. 2-3 weeks behind other late varieties. Make sure to give it a good headstart.I can’t wait when my 2 young trees start producing. My 2 years old was cut down to a single trunk and has since produced 4 scaffolds and no figs . Next year i hope.
I've been hearing so many good things about this one. I've been super unlucky with Calderona though. Last year everything rooted except Calderona. This year, imagine, I rooted about 50 cuttings, 20 something new varieties, only one died, and it was Calderona. again. I'll try Harvey's Calredona cutting next year, I've had 100% success rate with all of his cuttings so far. Maybe that one will work for me. Will definitely graft a bud or two, too.If only one inground tree in my climate l would pick Calderona MP. Later in the season but in time to ripen the whole crop.
Good luck. Waiting is painful in the hobby. Too long. That's why I've been starting my cuttings in November, whenever possible, to have fruit in the summer of the first year. Now that I have plenty of mature trees with very good varieties, I am not so eager LOLI don’t think I’m going to get any off of my tree this year, but I’m air layering it in half, so hopefully next year I can make up for lost time lol. I’m dying to get a good one of these. Next year will be its 3rd year too.
Haha I’m used to it. It gave me some real late last year, if I remember correctly they fell off around December when it got cold. So maybe I need to tone my expectations for it next year. lol I’ll wait if it’s worth it for sure.Good luck. Waiting is painful in the hobby. Too long. How does your I258 compare to Black Madeira types? In what ways is it better? I have I258 and Violeta and I'm wondering what the differences will be, because they are still very young. For me, it's still I-258. Oh man, it's a tough question. I'm not very good at describing things. Side by side, I-258 just tastes better. I like its flavor more. It packs more punch, more berry flavor. Then again, my Craven's Craving is just a little over a year old. It may need more time. I've had figs from it that were lackluster, and some were really good. But I always felt like they didn't quite reach the level of I-258. I had both side by side this morning, and I-258 just tasted like a better fig to me.How does your I258 compare to Black Madeira types? In what ways is it better? I-258 is more syrupy, perhaps a touch less sweet, with some acidity, with a very strong berry flavor, very nuanced. You eat it and you think - wow. Best Adritcs, for me, it's Unk Prosciutto and WM#1; they are more dense, thick texture, and jammy, with a taste reminiscent of strawberry jam. In the fall I pick up more nuances, like touches of blackberry or raspberry. Both are exceptionally good and were at the very top of my list last year. How does I-258 taste differ from the best Adriatics? Strawberry plus something else?
Same here. CC seems finicky and splits very easily, too. I have to be very careful watering it and need to protect it from excessive rain.My best tasting fig is Figo Preto, though it can be difficult to ripen properly due to climate (late and can split).
If I’d have to pick only one of mine, I’d select my Family Unk Etna type - mainly due to nostalgia.
I rooted four CDD varieties this year, can't wait to try them. The rooted trees are too small to ripen any figs this season, but the grafts are pretty advanced, so I hope to try some CDDs this fall if all goes well.I just picked a split BMKK. Thought I bagged it before splitting but it still comes with a wiggling worm in the middle. I like CddB best when ripen properly. I like the complex intense berry flavor. It doesn't split as easily as the BMs. I have to really work at it to prevent the BM from splitting.
