Let me start off with…. I wasn’t even planning to root anything this year.
Then when my cutting sales were closing out this winter, I had a few stragglers and decided I’d save them to root myself. I figured I needed some for our DMV Spring Figfest anyways. So a rough 50 cuttings got popped on 2/23/25 and here we are now.
I always enjoy rooting and seeing them root and grow, but it’s work after work. For a full time dad with 2 younger kids, sometimes you just want a Break, but I’m glad I rooted them.

Anyhow, I got about 85% which is my average these days. I ended up having one buyer who never paid and never came to pick up their cuttings locally so I started that last small batch in a group box full of mist Promix just for kicks and giggles.. So far so good 2* weeks in.

How did you fare this winter? Show us your pics!!!

Stay Figgy

Most of mine from the winter are small trees by windows begging for sun and warm weather. Can’t wait to get them outside and into someone else’s hands. I placed a few 2” cuttings horizontally and buried in 3” pots a few weeks ago and one has broken through the surface. I haven’t checked the handful of cuttings I stuck inground last week but I assume they got fried by the cold, but I’ll give them a few months.

I only had 2 cuttings this winter that I also planted inground old Italian man way. Not sure if they’ve rooted but if I give them a little tug they are quite snug in place so I’ll wait to see if any growth comes up from the soil.

@bushdoctor82 The best advice I got from my friend Lianna, she got me into growing figs she always said “concrete, figs love concrete. always put your tree next to concrete. If there’s no concrete to plant it near then when planting it in the ground put chunks of concrete around the base of the tree.” She was right. She passed away a couple of years ago, I really miss her.

Excited for this one as well this season.
Yeah but having just rooted it, I'll have to at least need to wait until next year to see it's normal timing.
That is hoping it gains some good growth this year!
That's my goal anyway, good growth this year...see how it runs with the others next year.

If I get a fig this year...bonus :)

3 weeks into the bin of Promix on the heat mat, I could see roots on the walls of the bin and on top of the soil. Leaves forming in there too which were starting to brown from being constantly wet. Took them out to up pot today.
