If it makes you feel better, I leave rooted cuttings in tree pots from the previous year out all winter with no ill effect. They are close to my house though which provides some protection. But being that I’m a half zone colder, maybe it’s some reassurance.

I was in zone 9B last year, but this year my zone switched to 10A. There’s no real overwintering here. I leave everything outside and water once every couple weeks if there’s no rain in the winter. Totally possible to overwinter in your medium as long as there’s a little nutrition and water. My trees never truly go dormant.
