Sharpshooters

I have these bugs all over my fig trees. I think they are sharpshooter/Leafhoppers. They do not seem to be causing any damage to the fig trees but after reading about them, they don't sound good at all. I would like to get rid of them. Does anyone know the best way to deal with these bugs? I want them gone.

Thanks for that advice. My wife just recently bought a little vacuum for her car. I don't know if she will like the idea of me using it to suck up bugs. Lol

WOW I don't think I have ever seen Sharpshooter damage photos before. I would imagine a wettable sulfur spray alternated with spinosad probably wouldn't do them any good. I would say one cycle of each would be enough to bring the population down quite a bit.

Lizards help also praying mantis if you have them.
The mantis population here is not that good anymore.

I will have to. She isn't going to let me suck up insects with her new vacuum. I have not seen any geckos around lately. I bet those things would eat some sharpshooters.
Man, we have some crazy looking lizards in my back yard. I think they’re called Texas Spiny Lizards… First of all, let me comment on their speed. They are absolutely 1000X faster than those Green Anoles. I’ve been unsuccessful for 3.5 years catching one. We nicknamed one Spike. I don’t think He/She misses a meal. I’m fairly certain they eat those bugs off of my trees. I’ve given up on trying to fight those things. They don’t seem to have much impact on the trees, yet.

I sprayed Neem oil on them because I had some on hand. They did not seem to like that. They were jumping off the fig trees. Is there downsides to using Neem oil?

Just be mindful of the temperature and don’t spray sulfur within a few weeks after application. Check the label, but I think most product literature recommend spraying in early morning or evening when sun is less intense and less of a risk of phytotoxicity.

It didn't really work very well anyways. I went out a few hours later and they are back. It probably reduced them some but it doesn't seem very effective on them. I will have to try the vacuum.

I just grab them and give them to my daughter to “play with” hopefully their friends will get the message eventually. Also, I have some Jerusalem Artichokes or Sun Chokes that I planted over there a few years ago and they seem to like those a whole lot better than the fig trees. Which I can’t recommend you plant because they will take over your yard lmao. They’re super invasive. My dads been trying to kill them for going on 5 years and they’re still about 10 feet tall. 😂😂😂😂

Btw, I thought I had some crazy mutant ones by my house. They’re like rainbow colored. I don’t give those to my daughter because then she wouldn’t let me try and kill the others.
