Brazos Bottom Red

This was grey ghost gardening talking about going there last year.
So much hype. I guess a lot of people must have received A+ grade in their grade school language art classes!

It seems we found another fig unicorn. The owner does not want other people to take photos of that tree. I have no problem if anyone wants to take photos of my trees. I get hundreds of them.

I don't understand this, no pictures?? Maybe it's just me, but anything food related is meant to be shared or taught.

It's my understanding that the family fears that folks will damage the butterfly habitat established around the tree so they guard the location. Having lived in that area before, I could see all manner of drunken Aggies doing just that.

I just saw one on figbid called Super Red Hybrid. Description says Large fig and uniquely red in color. 🤣
The Super Red Hybrid is a California Brown Turkey type of fig. It is not related at all.

This Brazos Bottom Red looks like a Hardy Chicago type of fig. It is probably the soil that makes the color more red. Maybe the variety too.

The most common "red" fig is the Palermo Red, or Sicilian Red. It is also called Brooklyn Dark, Malta Red, Sal's Corleone and Black Triana. This is the Godfather Corleone's original fig in Hell's Kitchen. It is very under-rated fig of excellent quality. The only thing is that is can split in our humid climate.

I didn't say anything about it being related to Brazos Bottom Red or any other type of fig.

@Red_Sun you just cleared up a longstanding question about Palermo Red = Sal's Corleone.
